my linksys router is not working??(read description)?

Q. i have a linksys wrt120n router and it worked for some time. then it didnt work anymore so i replaced it with a new one. Then i tried to install it again with the cd but it failed. Then i had an error in my computer that forced me to reinstall windows. After reinstalling, i plugged in the router and it worked without any setup. Now it isnt working anymore. I tried resetting it and installing it with the cd. it worked with the cd, and it also installed network magic. I connected my ipad there and the computer said new device found and its status is online. The signal in my ipad is strong but i cannot access the internet at all. i tried installing it again and all but still it didnt work. I tried to do the manual installation but the ip address for linksys ( 192.168.1.1 ) leads to my adsl modem instead of router. In some of the process though , i was able to open the router setup page instead of my modem when in the setup, there was no internet connection for my computer. I tried resseting everything, and also restarting my ipad and reset the network settings but nothing worked for me. i can still open the internet in my computer but not anywhere else

my operating system is windows 7 ultimate 32 bit

Thanx

A. You need 192.168.0.1 for your router.

how to configure my cisco linksys to factory settings.. model WRT120N..?
Q. i was using my wi-fi initially.. 4 months back.. we disconnected it.. it was with WEP security setting..
now i wish to use my wi-fi again but it says the settings saved on computer for network do not match the requirements of network.. so i need to reset factory settings.. any idea how to do it..

A. On the back of the router, press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. And, BTW, do not use WEP, it can be cracked it 15 seconds. Use WPA/WPA2.

My laptop is not gitting internet access on wyfi how do i fix it?
Q. I have a Wes tell modem model G90-610014-20 AND A Linksys wireless router model WRT120N and my friend held the reset button on both the router and the modem for 10 seconds and now when i connect to my WIFI set up i do not get internet access but when i plus the ethernet cord from my modem to my laptop i get a internet connection. I have tried to power down my computer and unplug everything for 10 seconds and plug it back in and i have also tried to unplug the router for 10 seconds and neither worked. What do i do?

A. Your "friend" reset both your modem and router to the factory defaults. Apparently, your modem's factory default settings are sufficient to work on your provider's network, and your router's factory default settings are sufficient to maintain a wired connection to your provider's network. However, your wireless setup generally needs to be configured, unless you want to run with the default network name ("linksys"), the default encryption (none), and the default password (none). And sometimes the factory default is that the wireless card is off, so you won't even get that.

What you need to do is go through the router setup routine again, and keep your friend away from your buttons. The manual for your router is here:

Linksys WRT120N Router and Speedstream 5100. Wifi keeps disconnecting from lap tops!?
Q. Ok so my mom can't quite figure it out. The Wifi keeps disconnecting from our lap tops every so often, (it doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's annoying because of how frequent it is) and we have no idea why it keeps happening! We think it has something to do with the neighbors wifi showing up and then disappearing from the possible networks you can choose to connect to!
To the first answer and all proceeding it, my mother doesn't know how to change the channels and what channels to change!

A. Go into the router, and change the channel for your wifi network. The non-overlapping channels for an 802.11g and n network in the 2.4 GHz range are 1, 6, 11. So change to one of those, and preferably as far away from your current channel as possible.

Here's a link to the home page for the router. In particular, it is possible to download a PDF of the user guide from that home page. http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT120N

In particular, you wish to refer to page 10, "Basic Wireless Settings (Manual)".

Help with connecting to Linksys WRT120N?
Q. My laptop has been unable to connect to this router since... well, forever.I've recently tried resolving it, but nothing I do is working. I've had friends and family look at it and nothing. I tried calling Cisco Tech support, but I've had my router for over a year... so they want me to pay $30 for their stupid tech support, and I can't afford that. Besides, that's outrageous.

My laptop is a Windows XP and it detects the connection, and says it has little or no connectivity and NO connectivity is correct. It keeps saying some kind of "User Error" or something? I'm no tech-geek by any means and I have tried Google, but nothing that has helped with this. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? If you need me to check something further, I can do so. Thanks for any assistance!

A. Okay, first I will make a couple assumptions.

First, that you have internet service and have a modem connected to it from your service provider.
Second, that the router is plugged into the modem with an ethernet cable.

Now, I am not sure if you are trying to connect wirelessly (which is my assumption) or wired.

If wired, you need to connect another ethernet cable from the router to your laptop. It should pick up a connection straight off and work. If not, disconnect the ethernet cable from the back of the router and plug that into your computer. If that works then there was something wrong with the setup of the router and you will have to get the manual out and start over.

If you are trying to connect to the router wirelessly, click on your connection icon on the bottom right of your screen and see that you are connecting to your router and not someone elses. How many bars are you getting?

After this, we will need more info.

How do I port forward a Linksys Cisco WRT120N router for my PS3?
Q. I have a few questions here, so read carefully and bear with me alright.

1. I need STEP BY STEP instructions here, and I've already tried calling the router's company and they were useless and didn't ell me what I needed to do.

So basically, I need to open up the ports in this link:

http://us.playstation.com/support/answer <-- Where it says "
PlayStation®Network and SCEA Game Servers"

2. I have no idea how to get into the settings, no idea what IP I need for the router. I know the password is "admin" but is the username the same as well?

3. If I open those ports on the router, will it affect the laptops/iPod/computer we have or will it ONLY open them up for the PS3? THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT, because if it opens up the ports for everything else then it makes them vulnerable to viruses, so I need to know if it's only gonna do it for the PS3, or everything else? I only need it for the PS3 because I can't play some games online. It won't connect to anyone, or if I do connect; then I get disconnected, or I get internal errors, or completely disconnected as in "Ethernet cable not connected", and a bunch of other bullsh*t.

Please help me out here, I really appreciate it. And don't answer if you don't know, I actually NEED an answer because I'm getting sick of this crap the router does with only my PS3. Thanks.
I have the issues with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelations. That port forward site doesn't have those games, so it won't help. Thank you for trying though. And apparently DMZ mode is dangerous and makes everything crazy vulnerable from what I've read.

A. to port forward you must first access the routers setup menu , that is fairly simple as most routers have a label showing the information needed on the back , use the default ip address in your search bar ( example http://192.168.0.1 ) just replace the numbers with your routers default ip as shown on the label .
the label will also show the ssid name , any password to access the menu etc. - usually your going to see a menu , select admin and put in the default password to access the routers menu
your router also probabaly came with a setup disc that can be used to access settings and will have a pdf file manual , read up on port forwarding to see which sub menu to go to
you'll see a port forward range with 2 sections on each line , to port forward range TCP 10070-10080 you'd put FROM 100070 on line one and TO 10080 on line 2
to port forward just one port ( example tcp 9293 you put in line one FROM tcp 9293 TO tcp 9293 so each is the same number

it's pretty easy once you start , just put each port or range in on a line until done

this opens those ports on all devices ij the router but since those ports are only used for ps3 games you won't open anything the pc can access anyway , it's perfectly safe and does not affect what other devices can connect to unless they are also using psn ( so it's great for a psp or psVita )

the setup disc or the router manufacturers website will have a manual you can use from the pc plus the setup disc usually makes it easy , don't forget to enable upnp as this opens most gaming ports automatically other than the ps3 game specific ones and will help in games not listed on the ps3 site .

Bridge routers to a single modem?
Q. Fairly new to networking and I know just about little to nothing in this category. I looked up online how to do it and it was difficult to understand, so I came to you guys to help me out. I have a WRT54GL router connected to our modem (our main router/RoadRunner[provider]) and I have a newer WRT120N router, both Linksys. My friend told me alittle bit about Bridging connections but I still managed to fail. The internet cord is plugged into the 54GL and from there I hooked up the 120N and put the ethernet cable from port 1 (120N) into port 2 of the 54GL. I went up to my laptop upstairs to set up the connection (It shows the wireless router but when I try to connect it says there is a problem with the connection due to the fact that there is no internet cable connected?) and when I open up Network Magic (what ever installed on my laptop to setup the router) it never gets past the plug in your power cable to the back of the router and wait for it to do what ever, stage.

So I am unsure on if I have to do anything with the IP adresses, mess around with the firewalls on my main or secondary router, etc. Like I said, I'm fairly new to this stuff. Thanks for reading this, hope you can help.

A. You need to first read the manual for the WRT120N to learn how to configure is a Wireless Access Point.

You want the router (WRT54GL) to be the "router" and the WRT120N to be a slave or extension to it

Your 54GL should have a starting IP address range for the DHCP client table of 192.168.1.30, but you should check that first. If not, you need to configure the starting IP address the DHCP server will issue (I suggest .30). This leaves 192.168.1.2 > 192.168.1.29 available for static address assignment.

Connect the WRT120N to your PC, per the manual, but you don't want it connected to the WRT54GL yet (might work best if you just power down the 56GL for this step). By default both the routers have the same IP address assigned in the factory, therefore you have an instant conflict when you power them both up on the same network.

Once your into the WRT120N management screen you need to disable DHCP client and DHCP server on the WRT120N. You want to assign it the same SSID (wireless network name) and "wireless security" password as you use on the WRT54GL. You also need to give the 120N a static IP address, per above. I suggest 192.168.1.2. Be sure you save it and then turn off the WRT120N.

I'm pretty certain that you don't use the "WAN" port on WRT120N in this configuration. You connect from any of the Ethernet ports on the WRT54GL to port 1 of the WRT120N.

Power down all your devices that connect to the network. Then power it all up again starting with WRT54GL.

Good Luck.

I know this can be made to work, I have a similar setup to this.

A. to port forward you must first access the routers setup menu , that is fairly simple as most routers have a label showing the information needed on the back , use the default ip address in your search bar ( example http://192.168.0.1 ) just replace the numbers with your routers default ip as shown on the label .
the label will also show the ssid name , any password to access the menu etc.

Are there any helplines or anybody that can help me with linksys wireless router setup?

Q. I have a Think Pad Laptop and just bought a wireless linksys by cisco router model WRT120N, and I want to set it up. I've tried doing it with the CD it comes with but I haven't figured it out. HELP please

A. Connect the modem to the router. Turn the modem on. When the lights stop flashing, turn the router on. When the lights stop flashing, turn the laptop on. (Make sure the wireless switch on the laptop, if there is one, is turned on.) The laptop will - at worst - give you a list of wireless signals to connect to. Choose yours. That's it. Once you're connected, set up MAC-address filtering and WPA2/Personal TKIP security (it's in the manual on the CD). BTW, that's ALL you use the CD for - the manual. Routers don't get installed (they get connected to) so you shouldn't be installing any Linksys software on the laptop.

i reset my linksys WRT120N router and now i can't connect to the internet please help?
Q. i need help i need to fix this asap

A. After resetting you have to reconfigure the router. For this connect the WAN port of the router to the ethernet port of the computer. Open a web browser and type in the address bar 192.168.1.1 to open the web based configuration page. admin is the user ID and password. Refer your router manual for details. After the web page is opened first change the Loal LAN IP to 192.168.1.8 to avoid IP clash. Do not enable DHCP. Create a wifi connection with a name and password. Save and logout. Disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer nad connect to the modem. Connect the modem to the computer. Enable DHCP in the modem using the web based configuration p[age of the modem.

my linksys router is not working??(read description)?
Q. i have a linksys wrt120n router and it worked for some time. then it didnt work anymore so i replaced it with a new one.

Thanx

Thanks.
