FAQ: Netgear Router IP address

How to Find a Netgear Router IP Address

If you have a Netgear router installed on your network, you need the IP address to access the router's configuration console. You can use an MS-DOS command called "Tracert" to identify the IP address for the router. The tracert command sends a small packet of information and returns the IP address for each router it passes. Since the Netgear router is located on your network, it is the first hop the packet makes. The first IP address shown in the DOS command prompt output is that of the Netgear router.

How to reset netgear router ip address?

Everytime I power up my netgear router (WGT624) it always has the same IP address assigned by my ISP, my ISP address is dynamic and has change in the past. I've preset reset but always loads with the same IP address, anyone knows how to successfully reset the Netgear Router IP address?

Answer:

Routers and NICs have a habit of pulling the same IP address, even when you tell it to renew your IP. One possible way to fix this would be to use the reset button on the router. This button is often located in the back of the router and is typically a small button that you need a paperclip or like object to push in. Hold in the button for at least 10 seconds, and your router should pull a different IP address. It's possible though, that your ISP has set an IP address to be assigned to your router (it's assigned in a DHCP table by your router's physical address (MAC address)). If this is the case, you need to contact your ISP and ask them to change it. Although, they likely won't help if your current IP address isn't causing problems.
