A. Linksys is the most popular and the most supported. Reflash it at dd-wrt.com to get better firmware. Keep it at least 6 ft from all computers.
My linksys e3000 router is slowing download speeds by half vs connecting directly to modem. What can I do?
Q. I tested speeds via speedtest.net on each of my two computers on the network while running through the router and then hardwired to the modem. Results were around 8mbps through router and 22 mbps hardwired.
A. Sometimes it is just odd settings.
1st - Disconnect and shutdown all computers but one, and connect that via hardline.
2nd - Make sure the firmware is updated to the newest version. Re-run test.
3rd - Manually set WAN port to 100Mbps, and run test again. If no change, undo.
4th - In advanced network settings, try some of the settings. Multicast can help, but I believe that is wireless.
4th - If your modem is a router and modem in one, it may be an issue related to having multiple routers. Telus does this. Try getting another modem from your ISP without the built in router; otherwise change the subnet of your router (instead of 192.168.1.1, use 192.168.3.1)
5th - Contact Linksys/Cisco support. They will be able to walk you through the steps to solve the issue. I contacted DLink when my 825 was getting 35Mbps on a 100Mbps internet hookup, and we got it up to 103 afterwards.

Note: Your wireless will typically be a bit slower than landline, but if you are using G or N, and are getting 54+Mbps connection, there should be little or no difference. If you get full speed connecting to the router using a hardwire, but not wireless, you know it is either an issue with the wireless tech or settings in your computer or the router, but not the other circuitry.

Linksys wireless router dropping inner network traffic?
Q. I have a linksys E3000 router and usually it works fine, I am able to access the internet from all of the computers and am able to ping each computer connected to the network. Every so often however it drops all inner network traffic so I cant communicate between PCs. I can still reach the router and internet but I cant ping any of the other computers on the network. This causes my shared printer to go down (as none of the other computers can reach the desktop that is sharing it) and it also prevents my windows vista computer from identifying the network if they are connected after the network starts dropping traffic. To get the network working properly again I have to turn off the router and then turn it back on to reset its operations. What is causing this problem and how can I fix it?
A. When was the last time you did a firmware upgrade? I have an E4200 and just did one, and wow...it's working much more smoothly now.
Log onto your router and look at the upper right corner for the Firmware version number.
Go to: Administration > Firmware Upgrade and click on the firmware upgrade link. You'll need the version number of your router, which should be on the bottom and see if there's a newer upgrade than the one you have.

How come I cant connect a Cisco Linksys E3000 to xbox live without constant lag?
Q. Here are my Router Details;
Model name: Linksys E3000
Model number: E3000
Serial number: CVQ01KB09514
Firmware version: 1.0.04 build 6
Operating system: Windows 7
Software version: 1.3.11006.1
Connection type (WAN): DHCP
IP address (LAN): 192.168.0.1
IP address (WAN): 192.168.1.64
Computer IP address: 192.168.0.109
Okay, so I was trying to figure out how to connect my xbox to my router without constant lag for me and my teammates. I saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg7Ez-4yccM but instead of editing the port range forwarding I edited the Single port forwarding. I had 4 bars on xbl for about 3 hours. Then BAM it strangely went back down to 1 or 2 bars. My NAT is open by the way. I can't believe this, this is like a $200 router! Please help me fix this.
