Q. I have ATT Uverse and I went out and bought a WAP54g and I want to have the WAP54g capture the signal that the ATT Uverse is giving off and then let me run it through a ethernet cable into my computer...
I need this because I am running Windows 7 64bit and my NETGEAR wireless card does not support driver in 64bit because Netgear announced they are not releasing drivers in 64bit...
I also wanted to know if "bridging" them would require me to go out and buy another WAP54g so one could give off a signal from the Uverse and then the other one upstairs would be able to capture the same AP's signal...
And I want this done so I dont have to run a ethernet cable going from my basement to my upstairs...
thank you lol but my dad ended up running 75ft of cable going from the basement to my room ended up being easier then he thought...but yeah i discovered the WET54g last night and was thinking about getting that

A. I have to tell you that this is a good AP but a bad "Client" Unit. You do need to use bridge mode, but the WAP54G can only connect to another WAP54G in that mode.
From THE manual for the unit.
"Wireless Bridge This mode connects two physically
separated wired networks using two access points (use
additional access points to connect more wired networks).
This feature only works with another Wireless-G Access
Point (model number: WAP54G)."
Linksys just didn't build the unit to be used as a bridge receiver. They do make units that do what you want to do, this isn't it!
Check out the WET54G which was designed as a bridge device and will connect to about any access point, including your 2wire. http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WET54G
If you can, take the WAP back and get the WET54 you and your systems will be much happier. (linksys just skipped the firmware to make it work as a bridge unit.)
I actually use the Ubiquity Loco's for bridges as they are cheap and very good.
http://www.ubnt.com/products/loco.php for $49.00 they just work and work well.

Problems with Linksys WRT54GL and Bridge?
Q. Due to the layout of my house, I have a Linksys WRT54GL on the first floor hooked up to my AT&T DSL that broadcasts a G&B signal and is picked up by a Linksys WET54G bridge in the basement. The bridge is wired to a Linksys EZXS55W switch. Then my XBOX 360, XBOX, and one computer are also on the switch. I've run network diagnostics, speed tests, line monitors, packet inspections, etc. from the computer with no network problems. The signal is 100% on the bridge. Despite this, I get major lagging in my XBOX Live games on a regular basis. In game, the signal seems to go between full and none regularly but with no pattern.
I bypassed the bridge and switch by hardwiring the XBOX to my router with a 100ft cat-5e and all the lagging was gone. However I don't want a 100ft cable just laying loose in my house, and wiring behind walls or in heating vents really isn't an option.
I replaced the bridge which is the first version with a WAP54G configured to work as a bridge. I also disabled
Sorry, but the above got cut off.
I also disabled all the wireless security to optimize speed. No dice. Still major lagging. I bypassed the switch, but that didn't solve anything either.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? I'd like to use the current equipment, but if upgrading is necessary, I can do that too.

A. If the signal goes between 0 and 100 on a regular basis, then there is interference from something.
Try these steps;
One change the channel on the router. If its on 6 like all other linksys in the world, change to 1 or 11 or 4 or 9 just try and see if that helps. Also while changing the channel change the default SSID from Linksys to something for YOU! If there are other "Linksys" around, your bridge may be getting confused as to who its supposed to be talking too. So change it and make it clear you want it talking to YOUR router!
Two. Run a long PING test, not just a short one but let it run for 10 minutes or so, If you see any dropped packets.. you have issues! It can be a cordeless phone, cordless speakers, a wifi camera, or even other computers but see if you can find why your dropping packets. If they aren't dropping see that the response is failry average on them If some show 300ms and others 32 then something else is causing your router to get busy! Find out what! That isn't always easy. Sometimes a firmware update is all that is needed.. Whens the last time you updated the firmware on the router? Check to see you have the latest!
Just remember 100mb cable will always be faster than a 54mb wifi connection.. When speed matters cables win!!!!! And that even applies to N type routers!!
If all that fails, an you really can't run a cable, then N may be an answer but check all these first!
Good Luck

Low wifi Signal?
Q. Is there a setting i can change to boost the signal when i look at the network choices it shows full strength but when i'm connected i'm reduced to two bars. i'm also the only person having this issue that uses the same router.
A. Sure there is!
It all depends on the router you are using. Some routers will allow you to boost the power, others won't.
Specifically, look at the Linksys WAP54G as an example. Using a special firmware called Hyperwap, you can boost the signal all the way up to 88mW, from the factory default 44mW. This'll basically triple the range of your router. Check out http://www.rmacd.com/downloads/howto/install-hyperwap-wap54g.php for a howto.
Some countries specify a maximum output power though. In the UK this is 60mW, and not observing this could theoretically land you with a huge fine, up to GBP£5000 (US$10,000). But practically, law enforcement can't really 'test' this.
As far as your description goes though, I'd look at investing in another WiFi card if I were you. Your low signal could be due to bad design, so invest in a good card. I use the Atheros/Proxim cards.
Hope that helps.
