Netgear Faq: Netgear Router Setup Address

Daniel asks…

How do I find my "Send to LAN Server" address (Netgear)?

How do I find my "Send to LAN Server" address (Netgear)? I'm setting up port forwarding for my FVS336G - Dual WAN Gigabit SSL VPN Firewall Netgear router. The network is already setup and I just want to forward a few ports. I already added the services but I just don't know what to put for "Send to LAN Server". Any help would be great! Thank You!

netgear answers:

To elaborate a little further on what the previous post said, it's usually something like "192.168.1.xxx" This would be the IP of the device getting it's ports forwarded.

Example: an http server on your network would have port 80 forwarded and it's "send to LAN server" address would be 192.168.1.100.

How do I ping for my router address?

I am trying to Network my PC and IMac. My netgear MR814 v2 router is up and running, but my IMac setup requires the router address? What is that? and..how do I obtain it? Please use specific language, i.e. not DNS for router address, etc.
In an answer to my question, I was also told to do the following and I don't know the steps to do these things...how do I: log into the router and change the password because netgear and linksys, and everybody else alike uses the same password: admin

Also, you can change the IP address of the router, which I really recommend if you are going to run wireless because anyone trying to hack into your router will always try the above because it's set for default.

I don't have a clue as to what steps to take to do these things. Thanks for any help, I don't mean to sound stupid, but I bought my router from a friend and it did not come with instructions.

netgear answers:

The router address should be: 192.168.1.1
If you read the instructions for setup on the netgear, it tells you the basics to get up and running.
A word of advice.. Log into the router and change the password because netgear and linksys, and everybody else alike uses the same password: admin

Also, you can change the IP address of the router, which I really recommend if you are going to run wireless because anyone trying to hack into your router will always try the above because it's set for default.

How do I change the channel on my netgear router?

I have a Netgear N300 router and i typed in the I.P. address into my browser and got to the setup screen. i clicked on settings and finally found the channel pull down menu but whenever i click apply i get an error message saying "WPS process is in progress, please apply the changes later." does this mean i should unplug my router while i do this? or should i turn off my wireless devices? please help thank you!

netgear answers:

Uncheck both options under WPS settings (Disable Router's PIN, Keep Existing Wireless Settings) and manually configure the way you're used to

how to setup router as access point?

Have a router cabled into main router. dhcp disabled on router acting as access point.
Assigned 192.168.1.10. But shouldn't router as access point acquire address from main router with dhcp enabled? Should address change?. I always get the 192.168.1.10 address. did i change to static?
have wrt310n model linksys as access point and netgear router as main router with dhcp enabled . Are they compatabilble?
also have a access point wre54g range expander as well, Has wep only.
But know if compatabile with the 2 routers i set up?

netgear answers:

Both routers should have static ip addresses. All three routers are compatible with each other.
