Wireless Router: Why does my laptop keep loosing connection with my wireless router and how to fix it?
I have a Cable modem directly connected to a Desk Top computer.
The Wireless router which I purchased in Sept 2009 is hooked up to that modem.
The first 3 Months I have used this wireless router it worked perfectly. (No loosing connection or anything like that). Also, the internet connection on the desktop has no problems (So I know it is not a problem with the cable company)
Now recently in the last few months... I tend to loose connection with my router.
In my "View Available Wireless Networks" menu The router shows up but connecting is so hard.
It'll connect for a few seconds, minutes or not at all.
By the way.. it is password protected and it is less than 30feet away from me.

Try using a different channel. Perhaps there is interference due to some other networks that have been established recently. That would explain why the router used work perfectly and only recently began to have this issue.

Check your wireless adapter properties, look under TCP/IP and make sure that it is set to automatically obtain IP and DNS.

So my wireless modem wont hookup to my laptop but it runs xbox live just fine. how would i fix this?
i have a Netgear WNR1000 wireless router, and for some odd reason it refuses to allow my laptop to connect. my laptop will connect to my neighbors internet fine, and my xbox connects without any issues to my router. my internet connection is secure and i know the password, but the laptop never makes it to the point where it asks for a password. its worked before, and it suddenly stopped. how would i (and im not good with computers) be able to fix this?
im sorry, technically its a notebook. gateway is the manufacturer
netgear answers:
Uninstall the driver files of your wireless modem from your laptop using device manager and then reinstall it and try again

I am having trouble connecting wirelessly to the internet.?
I currently have a cable modem connected to a NETGEAR N150 wireless router WNR1000. I have a MacBook that connects fine to other internet sources. The wireless network i set up shows up in my WiFi drop down and shows full strength on my airport signal bar. When i select my network and enter my password it appears as though i'm connected fine but when i select Safari it says i am not connected to the internet and will not load any pages?
What am i doing wrong? i'm open to any and all suggestions please.
netgear answers:
If a wired connection works but a wireless one doesn't, it's often a firewall/encryption problem. Sometimes it's not even the router, but a firewall on the computer.
From my recent experience, I would suggest you to:
1. Reset router to factory defaults;
2.Reconnect it to a working PC (which connects fine and receives internet from router);
3. Then, do the rest with the problematic Laptop or wireless device that did not work before.
Maybe this resets proper function or removes any fuziness from the router mind of its own in this case, caused by disconnection of modem, power outage or cable removal, relocation to another office/room... (who knows what else...).
Good Luck.
