Netgear Faq: Netgear Wndr3700 Firmware

James asks…

Reseting a router to factory state?

I have a netgear wndr3700. I upgraded the firmwire. So I did a factory reset 30/30/30 but the firmwire I upgraded to is still there. How do I get it back to the state of how I got it, with the old firmware?

netgear answers:

You'll need to roll-back the routers firmware. This link will take you to the Initial Release Firmware:

http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12044/kw/WNDR3700

and the site includes some instructions but if it doesn't work try the guide here:

Paul asks…

LAN Ports on netgear router not working?

The lan ports on my WNDR3700 aren't working reintstalled all the firmware used different cables any ideas why they would work before, but not now?
Well what I forgot to add was the wireless works just not the wired

netgear answers:

Perhaps it has a hardware breakdown.
Cables are the first thing to check, you've done that.
Next most common point of failure is the power. If you can find another unit that uses the same power supply, you can try a different AC adapter.
Check your manual for the procedure to do a hardware reset to factory defaults.

Otherwise call Netgear if it is under warranty, or buy a new unit if not.

Why is my internet so slow?

Hello, i have recently upgraded my internet speed to 130mbps and bought a Netgear WNDR3700. I've also received a new modem of which i only know it's brand (Ubee), I've had over 100mbps wireless (which most of you know is AWESOME) but ever since i've updated my router to the latest firmware my internet has been between the 10 and 20 mbps (even when i connected my modem directly to my computer). I have had a few DDOS attacks also ever since i got this router, not just port scans but full blown and ongoing DDOS attacks... This makes me extremely sad since at the moment it can take a full minute to load a page as my speed drops below 5 every few seconds! I've had different (worse) results using other mac adresses on my router, i haven't got a clue what is going on here =(

My question ofcourse, how do i fix this?
Forgot to mention, it's a cable modem, and i have had the full 130mbps for quite a while (70 at busy days) but now it's constantly 10mbps or lower even when i am not being attacked =(
Also this router appears to hold up damn good against DDOS attacks =O
Note: Zatch... How many times do you get punched in the face on a daily basis...? This did not work, also don't talk condescending to people you don't know T_T

Note: Yes i AM foreign =D
I scan and clean my pc every now and than, allready figured that might be it, also i told that i am used to speeds of 130mbps and above it's not my computer, i have the problem on 1 old and 1 new laptop and on a pc... Sorry but it isn't on that side, i do also have a rack server but i still have the problem when i unplug it... Basicly i've tried everything a foreig programmer can think of and my signal used to be extremely stable (i live next to the place where the fiber cable ends, no i don't know the word for it).
This is getting really messy, but i have allready contacted netgear and my provider and ofcourse have waited on the phone for ever to end up talking to some complete idiot =(

Fixx:
First off, the answers where most condescending or just plain weird. But i fixed it as I saw UPnP rules where set for TEREDO and I was like "ai that shouldn't be there" so i disabled it, now it works fine.
On a side note i now have DD-WRT installed on my router, i highly recommend it! Also but unrelated there WAS some spyware on my sisters pc...

netgear answers:

Hmmm, sounds like a classic case of clogged tubes. You may need to purchase additional tubes to increase the speed.

Internet Ping Issues?

Hi guys,

So I have been having internet fluctuating issues of late, and this is becoming a serious problem, especially as a gamer.

Issue: At random points in time, I will see my ping shoot up (I usually use Teamspeak 3 to monitor my ping) to unbelievable amounts that makes gaming unbearable. I run usually at 54-53ms +- 0.8-4.0. At some random points in time, my ping will spike up to 100's and a 50 flex and then peak at a 400 and 300 flex. This will occur for a time between 5 minutes to 30 minutes. It happens around 4 or 5 times per day, and I happen to be on a lot.

Here is my current specs:

I am running off a wireless connection from across the house.
Devices: my PC, Sony Vaio Laptop, 6 year old PC (Hardlined), Xbox360 (Hardlined), iTouch, DroidX, and a Toshiba Laptop. Normally only my PC is connected, with the 6 year old PC and the Xbox360 connected at random times. No heavy internet usage from that PC besides the occasional porn streaming (gotta love roomates) and xbox360 only does netflix.

I run 2 registry cleaners (CCleaner and RegCleanPro), and keep my drivers updated to a normal basis. I clear my cookies on a constant basis.

Solutions Approached:
1. Called out Comcast, got them to adjust a double flow internet booster that was power cycling my modem.
2. Updated Router firmware to latest version.
3. Virus scanned PC using AVG
4. Preformed 30/30/30 restart onto the Router to restore it to factory settings, which actually fixed an old xbox360 issue in which it hogged our bandwith to the point if anyone tried to access the net when Live/Netflix was running the net crashed.

If you guys need any more information let me know, I think this is a PC error rather then a ISP error, since comcast has helped me a bunch and fixed a majority of their issues. I did a quick internet crash logger, this only documents my crashes, not my spikes though. They are usually much more frequent.

3:00 am - 4/6/2012 crash, went to sleep
12:15 pm - 4/6/2012 crash, went to class
3:56 pm - 4/6/2012 crash, went to shower
12:00 am - 4/7/2012 crash, went to reset
Reset Modem at 12:01 am 4/7/2012, turned everything off
Net access back up at 12:06 am 4/7/2012, did not fix issue.
12:08 am -4/7/2012 internet crashed, went to sleep.

netgear answers:

Either your anti-virus is compromising your computer speed and efficiency of your NIC, or the problem is due to someone on your network downloading/streaming/uploading stuff. Since it happens at random and for various lengths of time, I am inclined to bet that it is someone else on your network hogging your bandwidth.

If all other devices are off, then I would disable or uninstall any anti-virus you have. Do any other devices on your network have the same problem?
