John asks…
I just got off the phone with Netgear customer service about my router. Is what they told me true?
I've had this router for a while now and the wi-fi stopped working. Not altogether, it'll go back and forth between working and not. But the PC plugged directly into it works fine. The rep told me that junk files downloaded from the internet may have corrupted the configuration, which is why I'm having problems. This doesn't sound right to me. Can anybody confirm this? Or suggest something else that may be wrong with it, and how to fix it?
netgear answers:
Can't type because laughing. That is a good one.
I'd first check to see if there is a firmware upgrade. It is possible it has been corrupted,
and it always good to run the latest stuff.

Having trouble getting Netgear 150 router to connect to internet.?
After I updated the firmware I was no longer able to get on the internet when router was hooked up to modem. Also, I changed the IP address to a google IP address. How do I change the address back to the 192.168.1.1 address? When I put that address in it takes me to google images website.
I have tried resetting, unhooking everything (modem, etc) and hooking everything back up, reinstalling and nothing. I have also tried hooking the router directly into the PC (with no modem) and still nothing.
When clicking on router log in icon it takes me to the netgear official website, not the log in page that it used to go to.
I called netgear customer service and was told that the warranty was out and that I would have to pay $60 dollars for a one-year warranty before they would transfer me to a person who could help. Then there was no guarantee that the problem would be fixed. The router cost me less than $60.
Is there a way I can fix this problem or would it be best just to buy a new router?
netgear answers:
Refresh the router/connection...
Good luck!

How Can I Program My Netgear Wireless Router?
I got new Comcast service set up and the tech said to call customer service and they'd walk me through getting my netgear wireless router all connected. Well..go figure, they don't help you do that. My laptop picks up signal and connects but then won't bring up any sites in the browser. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
netgear answers:
Chk the internet bulb on you router. If it itz blinking , U do not have a net connection yet. IF itz a solid light and blinkin
really fst.. Tht means u got da connection. Secondly
Configuring the Router
Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.
When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password) unless you have already changed it. NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.
Then cheak all the ISP settings and security etc.

I am trying to find the setting on my Netgear router that allows a VPN passthru?
It is a couple of years old but works fine. Anyone know how to configure this? I've been on the phone with INDIA (customer service) for an hour with two different "solutions" neither of which worked!
netgear answers:
Not all support VPN L2TP or IPSec passthorugh, you need to manually port forward to the LAN VPN listener.
Forward these ports on your router's firewall.

If you just want to share files over the WAN on windows PCs then get Hamachi. Its free and requires no router setup (if uPNP port forwarding is enabled or firewall allows UDP punchthrough). Install it on both PCs and create a network on one and join the network on the other and browse the SMB shares on the other PC.
For OSX get HamachiX (buggy)
