Netgear Faq: Netgear Wndr3400 Port Forwarding

Paul asks…

Help with Minecraft port forwarding?

I have a Netgear WNDR3400 router, and i am trying to open port 25565 so i can run a minecraft server on my laptop. I have spent about 3 whole days trying this and am about ready to hurl my computer through a wall. I made my router ip (LAN) static, and tried to open the port in the router gateway but according to yougetsignal.com it is still closed. I downloaded Simple Port Forwarding, tried that but the same thing happened. I am completely confused. I told my friends my external ip to use but they could not connect. I was the only one who could connect, but because i connected through the LAN ip on my computer, which is running the server. If anyone could just tell me what i am doing wrong it would be very helpful.
I followed all the instructions on PortForward.com and about 4019321 other forums

How to allow access to my terraria or minecraft server?

I had these problems before too. I have forwarded ports for six or seven years and never had problems until terraria. Terraria's lack of uPnP makes it a royal pain. From the sounds of it you are doing everything right. A few things to try,

Make sure you are forwarding them to your ipv4 address. To make sure, go to your windows search bar (after you click the windows icon) and type "cmd". Run that application and type "ipconfig". Scroll up until you find your ipv4 address. Make sure that's what you are using.

Make sure you are forwarding both UDP and TCP ports. Some routers have an option to forward both with one rule, you may just need to make a separate rule for each.

I too tried the above with no avail, if all else fails, try this. (this is what worked for me) http://www.simpleportforwarding.com/ It is a small, totally free application (there is a paid version but you won't need it, it will seem for a couple minutes that you will, but I assure you once you figure out how to work it you wont) Basically you tell it what ports to forward, etc, and it automates the process. It creates the rules for you. I have looked at the rules it created and I still cannot see the difference in what it did and what I did, but I have been hosting a dedicated server for a month now.

Hope something works for you.

Daniel asks…

My computer continuously loses internet connection.?

I have Windows 7, a NETGEAR WNDR3400 modem, and it just started happening recently. Recently, I added a port forward, so if its possible that is causing it let me know. Other than that, the modem has never been changed. In fact, I lost internet twice while writing this... PLEASE HELP! Ask if you need more info.

netgear answers:

When you say lose internet connection you need to find out more specific what it is. When you losethe internet connection do you get a message in windows saying network is disconnected? Or when it happens have you looked at your modem and see if it looks like it is power cycling itself like restarting?

You could check 2 things. Go to control panel then windows updates and look under the optional updates. Do you see any of them for your network connection? If so update.

Also to to netgears support site and check what firmware is available for download. Then log into your modem and under the settings see if your modem is possibly outdated.

Nat type 2 for xbox and PS3?

I have a Netgear N600 (wndr3400) router and centurylink internet provider. I have no idea what the hell I'm doing lol. I can't for the life of me, figure out how to get Nat type 2. I've tried forwarding Ports, nope, Checked the box for DMZ, nope. Any help? Please?

netgear answers:

I'm just spit-balling, but I believe Nat type deals with how your internet connection is secured.

Believe mine is blocked with WPA-PSK? I think lol

Figured I'd try my best; hopefully some computer savvy gents will come to the rescue!

Best of Luck!
