Chris asks…
setting up my new netgear wireless router as a repeater?
i have a netgear model number wpn824 and it says it can be used as a wireless repeater to extend range and i cant seem to get it set up correctly, any suggestions???????????
netgear answers:
Without more detail I can tell you that when you set this up the computer you are using and the repeater must be very close to the wifi router. If you messed up you will have to reset the repeater and try again.
Finally, once you get the repeater to see the wifi router and your computer to see the repeater you can experiment with where to locate the repeater so that it can contact both your wifi router and your computer. Floors, walls, appliances, etc can cut down on the signal enough to make it fail to make contact.

Can I make my netgear wireless router a repeater for someone else's open network?
netgear answers:
Probably not. Most access points can work as repeaters but not most routers. There's perhaps a 5% chance your router has the required functionality out of the box. If not there's also a chance you could replace the firmware with DD-WRT, whic hdoes allow for this, but unless you were careful to buy a router that is compatible with it in the first instance the odds of it being compatible are very much against you - perhaps 10% at best. That gives you a couple of possibilities but you are still probably looking at new equipment.

How can i convert a Netgear WGT624 v4 Wifi Router to a WIRELESS Repeater?
I am currently using a standard Cisco wifi router as the router used at home. My friend had this old wifi router which i asked from him thinking i could use it as a repeater since the current router at home can't reach some parts of the house. It would greatly help if you can have a step by step procedure on this as i am not that knowledgable about these things. Thanks a lot in advance!
netgear answers:
Not all wireless routers can be used as a repeater but if you are familiar with linksys and cisco products here is a site with free setup videos to get you started http://wrt54g-tm.blogspot.com/2010/07/universal-wireless-repeater-bridge.html and here http://wrt54g-tm.blogspot.com/2009/10/wrt54g-vs-wrt54g-tm-linksys-by-cisco.html enjoy
