Netgear Faq: Netgear Rangemax Wireless Router

John asks…

Having trouble with Netgear Rangemax Wireless Router?

I had a Netgear Wireless Router 802.11. I used it for my desktop, 2 laptops, Xbox 360, and Wii. I also have the T-Mobile hotspot at home and could make calls through my router.

It was working fine until 2 weeks ago. I moved the Wii from our media room into the living room. The Wii could no longer pick up a signal and our cell phones would drop calls all of the time. I figured that the router was getting old, so I bought a Netgear Rangemax.

I installed the router last night. The desktop and laptops work, but the laptops move very slow on the internet. My signal keeps changing from excellent, to very good, to good. With the old router, the internet was very fast on the laptops.

Also, the Wii, Xbox, and 2 cell phones will not connect to the router. They can find the signal, but they wont connect.

I've made sure that the key is correct and also that the network I'm trying to long onto is my network. I'm using a WEP Security.

I'm not too familiar with routers, so any help will be greatly appreciated.
I tried calling Netgear, but they told me to call my cell phone company and also to call Xxox. My cell phone company and Xbox said to call Netgear. So I'm in a perpetual loop.

The router might be defective, try to go to the store where you got it and exchange it. I got the same router and for me works pretty well.

Netgear Rangemax Wireless Router problems...?

I bought a Netgear Rangemax Wireless Router and during setup on my PC it ceases to find a connection during the "Restarting your Network" phase.

We have Windows Vista if this helps. Our internet provider is Mediacom, and our connection is perfectly fine when we connect through the standard modem. We have checked all cables and the modem and everything works until we try to run our connection through the router. Can someone help?

netgear answers:

Most routers you have to config before going online. Done by logging onto explorer and working offline. Type in router ip then enter username and password. Should be in instructions. Or log onto Netgear's website and search for directions on setting it up for your OS and router model #.

okay..i just bought a netgear rangemax wireless router...im trying to install its software but..it keeps saying that "The application only runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP or Vista 32-bit version operating systems. Run the application again on a supporting operating system, or consult the documentation to setup the router independently."
can anyone tell me gow can i install this properly?
please??
i got a windows vista 64-bit operating system..
please help quickly

netgear answers:

You don't need to install the software. The docs (on the CD) will explain how to set it up without installing the CD app. It's just slightly more complicated but not all that hard at all.

Mark asks…

I have a just bought a Netgear rangemax wireless router. But am finding the installation extremly confusing.?

I have installed the CD, but not sure how to make the network secure. Tried everything but obviously missing something. Is there anywhere I can get an idiot's guide to setting up the network. I am with BT internet and on option 1, so that means don;t have the wireless hub. hence the netgear box. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

netgear answers:

Here's the short answer... Call the FREE help line in your instruction manual (there is one that costs money so obviously don't call that one) and get it started, that's what we had to do (we had a netgear one as well) Their customer service people are extremely helpful
