Netgear Faq: Netgear N150

Ken asks…

Do you need to pay monthly for a Netgear N150?

Hello, do you need to pay monthly for a netgear N150. Lets just say im buying it from a store, will i have to get a company or i could buy it and have wifi without paying it.

netgear answers:

There appear to be two versions of the N150: one which is just a router, and one which is a router with a built-in DSL modem. In either case, you don't need a subscription to use Wi-Fi. Just plug it in and use it. But you'll only be able to talk to other computers on your network, because you will have no connection to the Internet. To use the DSL portion of the DSL-enabled N150, you'll need to sign up with a local DSL provider. Otherwise, to get internet access through either version, you'll need to connect an external (DSL or cable or FiOS) modem to the device.

There's no free lunch here. If you want Internet access, you have to pay for it. You don't have to pay monthly just to own the N150, though, nor to use it to network two of your own devices together. But you do if you want those devices to have access to the Internet.

Steven asks…

I have installed Netgear N150 router in my computer.what will happen to its files in my computer if I return?

I have installed Netgear N150 router in my computer.what will happen to its files in my computer if I return it to the store where i bought from and install another brand router in my computer?

netgear answers:

First you do not install a router into your computer.

You configure your computer's wireless interface to work with a specific wireless access point of a specific router.

If you replace the router with a different one or if you use your pc in multiple locations, the configuration remains installed. When you configure the pc to link to other wireless access points, these are also installed on your pc and you select the suitable one for your use. If a specific connection is retired and not likely to be used again, you can delete it.

Richard asks…

Netgear N150 Wireless Adapter will not stay connected?

I just bought a Netgear N150 Wireless Adapter, and I cannot keep it connected to the internet. It will connect but then lose signal after a few seconds. I have been trying to install for hours.

netgear answers:

1. Your wireless signal may not be that strong or you could be too far away
2. You may need to update the driver download the driver for the N150 on a computer that does have internet put it on flash drive and install it on your computer

James asks…

Does connecting netgear N150 wireless router to MTNL broadband modem works?

I have MTNL broadband connection. But in addition to my desktop, i want to use the internet for my laptop as well as my tablet. So is it poosible for me to connect a wireless router to my existing broadband conection and use internet on any of my systems? Do i need to remove the modem or I can add the wireless router to the existing modem?

netgear answers:

If the Netgear router is just router only and not modem router then you can connect to modem and get a wireless in your home. But if netgear is modem router then remove the modem and use this as a modem router and you can get wifi also. Good luck
