Netgear Faq: Netgear Support Forums

James asks…

I need help with connecting my Ipod Touch to my Netgear home network?

Iv'e read some support forums and what not, but i still do not understand. I can connect, but cannot reach the severs. I have DHCP ON, but there seems to be a problem, because the the IP address i receive from my router starts with 169.254

I've tried manually setting it up, but also failed. I looked at the IP address, Gateway, Submask etc on my laptop to help me set it up. The touch couldn't reach any servers then as well. please help me. Thanks

netgear answers:

If you are getting ip of 169 then your device is not connected to the network. So you change the wireless settings in the router by going in to the routers web interface by using 192.168.1.1 or www.routerlogin.com the changed the ssid channel and mode
some ipods will not work with security so you disable the security.

Local Networking Problem?

Ok, I cant seem to figure this out and I have tried everything I can find in the support forums and troubleshooting tips.

I have three computers connecting to the internet through a Netgear Wireless router (wgr614 v6) that connects to a cable modem (Comcast).

Computer 1- Hardwired to the router

Computer 2- Wireless Netgear USB Device

Computer 3- Wireless Netgear USB Device

Computer 1 sees all computers with no problem

Computer 2 only saw itself until I went to run and typed \computer3, when I tried the same for computer1 it said it could not find the directory path- So Computer 2 can see Computer 3 but not computer 1.

Computer 3 also only saw itself until I went to run and typed \computer2, when I tried the same for computer1 it said it could not find the directory path- So Computer 3 can see Computer 2 but not computer 1.

I hope this makes sense . I cant figure out why one computer can see all and the others cant.
Yes all computers have shared folders... what im kind of thinking at this point is that the wireless might be set as and adhoc and I may need to change them to infastructure..... cant seem to find anything that says how to do this either....?
Couldnt figure it out, computer was begining to act funny, so I backed up then reformated the hdd.... worked like a charm after the reformat..... so no idea what the fix might have been.

Just a guess, but does Computer 1 have any directories or printers shared? I don't know if computers without any shares register with the network.

I still need help with Hamachi!?

Ok! I'm trying to set up a Hamachi server for me and some friends. When I begin to set it up, I get two dots in the task bar and then this error:

Failed to configure Hamachi network adapter.

Configuration problem is most likely caused by your firewalling software
blocking DHCP traffic on Hamachi adapter. Please make sure that UDP traffic from local port 68 to port 67 at 5.0.0.1 is allowed. Alternatively, you can try completely disabling the firewall on Hamachi adapter.
If neither of the above helps or you don't understand this message, visit
our Support Forums, report the problem and you will get help.

Would you like for Hamachi to keep trying to configure the adapter while
you adjust your firewall settings ?

I am using Windows XP, Windows FireWall, a Netgear router, and Trend Micro 2008. I have added exceptions in Windows Firewall, and forwarded the ports in my router. Is there something I'm missing about the "5.0.0.1"?

PLEASE HELP! I'M UNDER A DEADLINE :*(

netgear answers:

5.0.0.1 is your IP address and there should be nothing wrong with it as long as you have used a correct IP addressing plan. I would take a look to make sure that your Trend Micro is not causing problems.

HP Presario Wireless Assistant Will Not Function! Help! ?

I have an HP Presario F500 laptop with Windows Vista and up until two nights ago, it was working perfectly, and when i turned it on the next day, i started to experience a problem.
On my computer there is a switch to enable the wireless assistant. I always have it enabled, and never touch the switch. Usually when the assistant is enabled, a light beside it shines blue, and when it is disabled, shines orange, but at the moment it is always orange, whether i have the switch turned on or off. It also will not pick up my internet signal from my Netgear wireless router. I went to help and support on my computer, and it told me to go to the HP Wireless Assistant program on my computer, but when i clicked on the shortcut to take me here, it did not appear.
I have tried numerous ways of trying to fix this problem from searching on forums online, but to no avail.
Can anyone help me?

netgear answers:

Try this

Go to control panel, switch to classic view (continue if you are already in classic view). Double click Network and Sharing Center, on the left panel, Select Manage Network Connections, Right Click on the Wireless Network Connection and click Enable.

If that doesn't work it may be that you have a hardware fault and need to contact HP support for advice or it may be simpler to buy a USB wifi adapter
