Netgear Faq: Netgear Wndr3700v2

Thomas asks…

portforwarding question (minecraft)?

ok so my family just got a faster internet 3 days ago, which means that we changed router (netgear wndr3700v2) and we got a big thing on the wall (it says "multiservice gateway - allied telesis" on the side) and i was supposed to host our minecraft server since i have the fastest internet (by far). BUT when i portforward the netgear router (PS the netgear router is connected with the big thing on the wall) and open up the minecraft server, it starts up no error messages or anything. but people cant connect to it at all, their minecraft says "unable to reach server"

and my question(s) is
does the big thing also have ports, that need to be forwarded?
and if it does, how do i portforward them?
if it doesnt have ports, what else could be causing it?
and how do i fix it?

netgear answers:

What is required is an engineer with exec mode access to the router to configure it correctly it is not a simple task as it does require knowledge of the routers exec mode to program it.
This is what a ccna has to do with networking.

Robert asks…

My internal IP Address isn't what it should be?

Lets make it brief....Got a new router, Internal IP address (or "default Gateway") is 10.0.0.1 instead of 192.168.1.1.

Im trying to port forward and this is complicating things

Router is Netgear WNDR3700v2
Also, my actual external IP adress is 10.0.0.5.....which isnt right...wtf is going on
Got it brand new out of the box,
They arnt IP adresses that people can connect to

netgear answers:

That's a valid internal IP address. It isn't something that it _shouldn't_ be and I don't see why it would affect the set up of port forwarding in the slightest.

Three internal IP address ranges are defined: 10.x.x.x is one, as is 192.168.x.x. Using one or the other is not "wrong", simply different.

Charles asks…

Should I have the same channel (1-11) on my router and adapter?

I have a Netgear WNDR3700v2 dual band gigabit router. I also have a WG111v3 wireless-g USB adapter (a new wireless-n adapter is currently being shipped to replace this adapter). I've noticed my new router drops out a lot more and is a lot slower than my 2005 WGR614 router. Any suggestions to increase speed? My wireless phone is 5.8GHz and my router channel is 6. Should my adapters (USB adapter) be set to channel 6 as well? What can help increase speed? This router is supposed to be top notch and work fine with 4+ connected devices using demanding applications, or am I mistaken? All my software and firmware is up to date, using Win7 on most devices. My wireless desktop is running at 54 Mbps compared to the possible 300+...how to I speed that up?
Thanks a bunch!
I also have a 5-8 years old Motorola SURFboard modem, if that affects the new router's speed.

netgear answers:

Yes they should both be on the same channel this will improve things alot. If you run G and N simultaneously then the router will drop the speed to G rates and you will have no improvement. N is distinctly faster despite people saying you dont need that speed and 54Mbps is more than enough(I used to be one of them), however 54 Mbps is only 8Mbytes/sec.....minus network overhead and signal corruption maybe 2-3Mbps. Thing is G only goes at this 54Mbps like when your hub and antenna are touching almost, anything else and the speed is halved + halved + halved again, ah and again, till well well till there is no signal. Oh by the way so does N !! Only it starts alot higher.
