Netgear Faq: Netgear Wndr3700

John asks…

Best modem (with telephone lines) to go with Netgear WNDR3700 router?

I have The Netgear WNDR3700, which is supposed to be one of the best routers on the market today, but I feel my outdated modem is holding me back. What Is the best modem today that includes 2 Telephone lines and is compatible with my router?

netgear answers:

But MODEMS don't include telephone lines! Modems receive a DSL signal over a telephone line and convert it back to a digital (ethernet) format. The Lines come in long before the MODEM.

If you mean you want two VOIP phone lines then you are looking at another ROUTER! Some router/modems do include VOIP connections and an ethernet port. If you use that setup you will then have two routers which unless hooked up correctly will indeed cause issues.

If you want to "expand" details please do cause otherwise there is not any good answer for you.

Donald asks…

Can netgear wndr3700 work as a modem?

I mean can it be plugged in tel. line (internet) direclty ? Is it possible with the dd-wrt ?

netgear answers:

No this looks like it is a Router only. Which then plugs into a Modem which then connects to the Internet.

William asks…

Netgear WNDR3700 vs Cisco Linksys E3000, which would you pick, regardless of price?

If you have any other suggestions, other than these 2 let me know.

netgear answers:

I bought a Netgear usb network adapter, RangeMaxWPN 111NA @ Best Buy for $60. And it was primitive, so I retured it and got a CiscoLinksys wusb600n-ver.1 w/ 1 yr warranty, $84.

At first it was dynamite: detailed interface, fast [considering] and stable.

Then the cabled extension base failed after about 6 wks, so I called CiscoLinks for a RMA. For an hour they switched from dept to dept, all playing REAL dumb. The Tech Dept pretended not to know what the extension base was. Sales asked me how they could kno I dint break it.

Finally somebody agreed to mail me a new one and tried to hangup w/o getting my address.

I got the new one and it failed after about 6 wks.

Despite them having all my info, they put me through the same routine when I called, this time for 53 mins.

Then they thought up a new Dept: Inventory. Told me everything depends on them, and they dont take outside calls.

That was July 09, and I haven't received a new base, or email or phone call.

After 6 wks has elapsed, i'm calling them and giving them 10 working days to send a new base, or I file complaints w/ FTC for warrant fraud, send a cert mail letter to their CEO, and maybe sue in Small Claims Court so I can get judgement and seize some of their products @ Best Buy for compensation.

You be the judge.

And don't get me started on the low-IQ, wanabe thugs @ Best Buy.
