netgear answers:

Connect your cable from the DSL filter to the modem/router. It will connect to the port to the far right side (assuming the antenna is on the far left). You can use an ethernet cable to connect the router to your pc by connecting one end to the first port of the 4 ports in the middle of the router and the other end to your pc. This will give you a connection to the router with no drivers needed.

As for setting up the router, you will need to open your browser and type in the local IP address for the router ( typically 192.168.0.1).
After this you will be asked for a username and password. The username will be admin and the password will be password.
After you log into the router you will need to configure it with the settings given to you from your telephone company (ie: username, password, dns servers..). After you have finished configuring the modem you should be able to move on and configure your wireless access.

Internet works on Ubuntu but not on Windows XP SP3?

Hey guys.

I have a little prob with my internet. I have XP and Linux Ubuntu installed on the same partition (installed physically into XP). I've had probs with XP trying to find the networking hardware (which it just wont) however, i just installed ubuntu and hopped on the internet (where I currently am). I've searched continuously on the internet for drivers for my netgear router (model: DG834G v2).

I've been having problems ever since my computer reset and mysteriously only got to the boot screen, lingered for a second then reset. I then pop in my XP installation CD and the partition has been formatted (this is after a great struggle getting 'Mr. BIOS' to detect the hard drive). So I reinstall and the first thing I do is try to set up internet. No network hardware. This has been going on for more than a week. I still have the internet plugged into the same port on my computer, boot up ubuntu, and viola! Instant internet! Can anyone help me please? Thanks heaps.
I know its not my hardware because im on the same computer-its not my ISP-Im using a linux operating system

Sounds like XP doesn't have native drivers for your network card. When you reinistalled it you wiped out all your drivers. You'll have to find out the manufacturer and model of your network card (not the router), and download your driver, copy it to a thumb drive or something, then go back to windows, install the drivers, and connect. What it sounds like is happening is because Ubuntu is updated fairly often, and XP is a fairly ancient OS, Ubuntu just happened to be new enough to have your drivers built in. I'd suspect that if you had Vista or Windows 7, they would have had the drivers built in as well.

cat 5 to router stopped working.?

No matter waht i do the cat5 network connection to my netgear DG834G wifi router wont work. Wifi works fine but you plug the cat 5 in to my pc or my laptop it wont go online.

I reset the router i check the cat5 leads they are fine. The drivers for my network ports are fine.

I am totaly peeved

Anyone know how i can fix this or whats wrong. i need to get my desktop online and it doesnt have wifi.

netgear answers:

Have you replaced the original cat5 lad for a new one
If you have, plug the lead into your computers lan port then go through each port untill you get a connection, if not make sure your router is set to DHCP in the lan settings..good luck..

Wireless router/connection problem?

Hi I've been using my wireless connection for months now without a problem but recently whenever I switch on the computer that uses the wireless connection (i.e. not the "home computer") it struggles to find the signal, and will only connect for about a minute before the problem arises again. In the past couple of days it has not picked up the signal at all, no matter how many times I rescan. The router seems to be operating well. It is a Netgear DG834G v3. My wireless USB reciever is an Edimax EW-7318USg. I'm going to try reinstalling the Edimax driver on my wireless computer and see if that helps. I have no idea what the problem is. I wouldn't have thought it was a problem with obstacles disrupting the signal as there have been no recent changes to the house and the signal has worked well before. I don't know what the problem is! Any insight on this would be appreciated greatly.
Thanks in advance!
I reinstalled the driver and the wireless point has been recognised by the wireless reciever during scanning, I try and connect, typing in my password, but it disappears again after that. The signal strength was good. I did manage to get it to connect again but literally for about half a minute before connection was lost.

My guess is that the radio signal is weak due to walls floors appliances wireless phones etc. If that is the case if you move the computer close to the wifi router all these problems go away.
It is also possible that a neighbor also has a wifi router operating on the same channel and they are conflicting with each other. In that case (and with the cordless phone) change to another channel. Get the free program Stumbler from http://stumbler.net to detect any neighborhood networks and the channels they use.
Also, you may find that a better antenna on your computer would help a lot, as it did for myself. Some wifi adapters come with removeable antennas that can be replaces with a high gain antenna that picks up weaker signals much better.
