Netgear Router help.....?
I have a Netgear CGD24G Router, i was trying to get it to connect to my Wii, so i follow the directions to the website where you can change the settings, I hit some buttons, and all of a sudden I couldn't connect to my router to access the internet. So i figured I would reset the whole router and everything would go back to normal. I reset it, and I still can't log in (i don't know the password), and I can't assess the website to change my settings. Can anyone help me?? Or can you give me a number to talk to actually Netgear support? thank you!
netgear answers:
Reset the router to factory settings. You can do this by using a pin or pen tip, push it into the reset button (the tiny hole by the power plug) on the back panel of the device, and while it is pushed in, hold it for about 7 seconds, and when you see all four left LEDs (looking from front) start to blinking at the same time, release the pressure on the pin, and remove the pin from the hole. The device will reboot, and will have factory settings restored after device boots up.
You can access the router by connecting your computer to it by a Ethernet cord. Type "192.168.0.1" in your browser. The user name should be "admin" the password should be "password". From there you can reset everything.

I messed up my router...?
Yesterday I pushed the 'factory reset'(trying to fix something for Xbox Live) button on my modem(Zhone) and my router(netgear) and after that nothing worked anymore. I call my internet provider and they made me plug in the modem into my computer and do something on the CMD on my computer. After that the internet worked for a while. But after a few hours it started trying to connect me to the internet using dial-up. Today i called again and told them about my problem. They told me that they couldn't help me with this and they game me a phone number for Netgear support. I don't feel like calling so much so I thought I might try this.
Thanks!

You probally just need to reset everything for it all to work fine.
When you say you pushed the factory reset button on your router did you hold it in for 15 seconds or just push it in and let go? In order for your router to be reset to it's factory settings you must hold the router button in for 15 seconds.
As far as the CMD issue goes they were probally trying to get you to reset your IP address by releasing the ip and restoring it again.
Try this.
#1 -Turn off the PC completely.
#2- Remove the wire connected to the router that is attached to the modem "intenet connection"
#3 - Unplug the modemn and remove the battery if it has a backup battery)
#4 - Completely unscrew the cable line from the modem
#5 - Press and hold the router rest button in for 15 seconds
#6 - Wait 2 minutes and work backwards
#7 - Insert and screw in the cable cords to the modem
#8 - Insert the extra battery (if you have one)
#9 - Plug up router wire back into the back of the router
#10- Insert the power cord to the modem
Let everything boot up and get all the lights blinking before you turn on your PC again.
Now turn on your PC and check your connection to the internet from your PC.
You should have everything working fine if not.
Click on start > all programs > accessories > MS-Prompt
Type in these words:
ipconfig /release (press enter)
Type in these words:
ipconfig /renew (press enter)
You should be back up and running.
You will have to setup your network key again and be sure to carry that key over to your Xbox when it asks you for your network key and you should be back in action.
One more thing....you might want to run a full virus scan on your computer to be sure a virus isn't the issue with switching you over to dial up.

how do you get the IP and DSN for your Netgear Router?
I accidentally renamed my ACCOUNT NAME for my Netgear Router and it wiped out the default settings for the IP address and DNS address.
I have no idea what the original account name was.
I called Comcast and thy would not provide me with that information and they gave me the number for Netgear. My router was no longer under warranty so Netgear would not provide me with any help. They wanted to charge me $70 for 6 months extended tech support or $35 for 15 minutes.
The router model is WNR834B
I made the change under Basic Settings.
I could buy a new router for $70 or pay the $35.
or would it be possible to restore it with the disc that came with the Router? I have not tried this yet.
netgear answers:
If you want to set the settings back to the factory default you should reset the router using the reset button, usually a tiny button located on the back of the router.
Do a hard reset.
Hold reset button for 20 seconds, unplug for 20 seconds while still holding the reset button and hold 20 more seconds after you turn on the power. So you're holding the button for about 1 minute.
That should reset to defaults.
The factory default password is "password" without quotation marks. I don't think there is a user name, so try to leave it blank.

Netgear WGR614 to Belkin 7230-4 wireless bridge...possible?
Is it possible to bridge a Netgear WGR614v5 wireless router to a Belkin 7230-4 v7001 wireless router? Currently, I have the WGR614 configured as a wireless access point for my DSL connection. I bought a Belkin 7230-4 hoping to use it as a bridge between my current setup and my Slingbox. I was going to use DD-WRT to accomplish this, but apparently the hardware version of my Belkin is not currently supported (the version number was not specified on the product page when I bought it). I have set the Belkin up as a bridge using its current firmware, but I cannot get the two routers to communicate with each other. Is this even possible with two different routers? Does the WGR614 even support WDS (I've read conflicting answers)? Might it work if the setup were reversed (i.e. with the Belkin as the main router and the Netgear as the bridge)? I'm leaning toward returning the Belkin and getting two new routers, but I would like to avoid that expense if possible. Any help will be appreciated.

I've only ever gotten a bridge to work between two Belkin 7230, as thier manual says that's the only way they can do it on the help site... Although, I could have sworn I did it from my Linksys WRT54, to the Belkin... Although after hours of trying, I couldn't get it to accept it as a bridge a second time... Good luck
Update: Link to Belkin... I just did it with two 7230-4

Just did it with my Linksys, follow the ap setup for your belkin (the second part on the belkin page), and it just works... How odd is that... Never thought I'd get it back, thanks, lol
side note: I can only get it to work with WEP or no security... For some reason, I can't line up WPA/WPA2, still trying though... I'm actually using my computer via the bridge right now, testing it out... Works pretty good, maybe my issue before was the WPA... Hmmm
