Netgear Faq: Netgear Support Contact

John asks…

Problems with Netgear DG834G v4 Wireless Modem Router?

Have tried contacting Netgear support but product is over a year old and they want £50 for 6 months!
The Router will turn on the power light 4 seconds later the internet light will come on and then they will both go out, starting the process again.
If I try to reset the Router then only the power light will flash Red and Green quickly. I have tried doing a full reset but nothing happened. Any ideas and/or solutions to the problem would be greatly appreciated.

netgear answers:

The router is dead. It is trying to boot up, can't find the right info it needs so it restarts again and again. There isn't going to be anything we can to do get it fixed. You'll have to buy a new one.

Joseph asks…

How to change Netgear Router settings?

I just bought an Xbox 360 yesterday and it wont connect to Xbox live. I tried all of the solutions on the website and even called for help but nothing worked. The guy told me to contact routers manufactuer netgear support and tell them I'm getting an MPU error on xbox live. Then they told me to get into the router settings or something but when I called netgear they were no help either and tried selling me something... haha. So is there anyway to do this by myself? My dad is an IT tech but he is unsure. He said he's have one of his guys try but does anyone know how to do this or if it is possible?

netgear answers:

Go to the Netgear Support site. Search the Knowledge Base for the answer. If that does not work go to the Discussion Forum.

William asks…

problem with wireless internet connection, please help!!?

I have Netgear router. My laptop works fine wirelessly but my desktop is not connecting to the internet. I had belkin adaptor before, thinking that problem may be with the adapter, I changed to netgear adapter 2 days ago. It connected well only for few hours but ever since I have not been able to connect. I contacted netgear support 3 times but the problem is not solved. The support tech finally mentioned that problem may be with "XP utility". I disabled firewall to see if that helps but all in vain. I am very frustrated. what do I do ??

netgear answers:

The XP utility the Netgear support was referring to is the Wireless Management utility. If you can see the wireless network icon in your system tray (lower right corner of your screen (computer with ")))" next to it), right click it, select open network connections, in the window that opens, right click the wireless interface, select properties, select the advanced tab, there should be a check box that states let windows manage this connection. Clear the check box.

Other things to check:

Make sure that any security you have setup on the router has not been reset on the pc. Sometimes this information can get lost to the ether. Make suer if you are using WEP or WPA that your passphrases match.

If you need clarification, or further assistance, feel free to email me.

Michael asks…

Customer rights for warranty?

I bought Netgear Router (with 2 years warranty) on March 09 from Argos.
The box was already opened and his name was on it.
I did buy because they had only 1 left and it worked fine.

Argos sold me as a new. I have got receipt.
Router started giving me problem after a year. I contacted Netgear for RMA.
They said it was already registered with different name and they don't amend details and warranty continues to owner who registered and not with the unit. Netgear does not support any second hand or refurbished units and contact to reseller not with us.

So Argos sold me something which has no manufacturing warranty (and second hand router) a year ago with full price.

I am asking what are my rights so Argos should take back router under and give me refund or exchange with different unit?

Thank you in advance.
hi.. thank you for responding but my claims are not heresay because I have a receipt.
Thanks for all answers we got replacement for the product without much hassle. Best answers Hd and finglas9.
Argos is a very good store.

netgear answers:

You have the same rights with a second hand item as you do with a new item. The warranty is irrelevant, you are protected under consumer law. The Router must work as is intended.
Only if when sold to you if Argos said - "THIS IS SECOND HAND AND HAS A FAULT SO WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY" is the occasion when you have no rights. But they did not do or say that to you.
Take it back and demand your money back or a new Router - this is your right under the law.
Your argument is with ARGOS not with Netgear or any one else. Argos are obliged to change it or money back - it is your choice.
