Netgear Faq: Netgear Router Ip Address

David asks…

IP Address help? (Netgear router)?

Okay, so I got a laptop for my birthday and I went out and bought a wireless-G Netgear router (WGR614) so I could get wireless internet. Well, I installed everything on the family desktop computer. Now my brother wants to get x-box live through the router. We hooked it up using the Ethernet cord because it was the only way to get a network connection. Now, on the x-box, it's saying that our IP address has failed, even when its set on automatic. What can I do to get the right IP address? Do I have to assign a different one to the x-box than the one that's on my laptop? (I'm not even sure if the laptop has the same one, but thats what might be one of the problems?

Problems IP address, netgear wireless router?

I have been trying to set up a netgear wireless-n 150 router, model no. DGN1000. It works fine while plugged into my laptop, but as soon as i unplug it, won't connect to the internet. The LED lights are all fine on the router box, but when try to connect to network says "limited access only/ no internet access" on my screen, and when i try to diagnose the problem using the wizard, it says that the IP connection for that network is invalid. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks very much for any help.

netgear answers:

Your router given to you by your internet service provider should be connected to the Netgear wireless router via a network cable. If you can't connect to the wireless router from your laptop you may not have a built in wireless adapter. If you do have a wireless adapter built into your laptop ensure that it is turned on some laptops have either a switch that turns this on or holding the function key (often located next to the CTRL key) and one of the number keys. Also you may need to log into the Netgear router and obtain the WEP key write it down because you may be prompted for it to connect to the wireless router. To log into the router you will need to type in 192.168.1.1 in a web browser hopefully you have the user name and password. Having the model of what laptop you are using as well as what operating system you are on would make it easier to assist you as well. NOTE: Just because you have a wireless router doesn't mean you will be able to utilize it you need to have a wireless adapter on the computer that will be accessing the router if it's not built in you can purchase an external USB one.

How Can I Find My Router IP address at work?

Hi, we just had a new modem router Netgear DG834G installed at work. This is the same as my home one so am well aware of ow it works. Funny thing is I used to be able to access our OLD router on explorer via 10.0.0.3 but doesn't work on the new router. I have tried netgear's default 192.168.0.1 It's not that either.

So went on a site that scans your network (10 pc's and 3 network printers). It gave the IP address for all the pc's and printers but not the router. It's as though it is hidden. Have also noticed that our internet is far slower than it was before, even though the old modem operated at a slower speed than the netgear. Any ideas
Actually you are all worng. I am experienced were networking is concerned and IPCONFIG/ALL does not give the router address, only the ip address of our server. The IP address is 10.0.0.201 and found it easy. The router icon was simply located in my network places. It is not set up as a DCHP server as all our pc's have static routing. I need to access the router as I am the one who re-boots it if our internet is not working and also makes a back up of the settings. Still can't understand why our internet is slow, even with 1 pc online and have checked the speed which is about 5.5mbps. Thanks to you all anyway

netgear answers:

'ipconfig /all' at a command prompt will give you the DHCP assigned default gateway IP address.

If the router is acting as your DHCP server then this will be the routers IP address too.

If your not the IT manager or don't have authority to be messing with the router I would talk to the person who is first as they should have this information already. The company/person who installed this device should be able to give you all the information you need.

Considerations:
Is your issue network speed or Internet speed?
Are you connected wirelessly? Do you have a good signal?
(Poor wireless signal strengths degrade speed)
Is a PC on your network hogging all the bandwidth?
(Thus slowing everyone else down)

Post more info on what it is you are trying to achieve as your end goal. Why do you need to access the router?

How can i find my WPA and IP address for my Netgear wireless Router?

I'm trying to connect to Xbox Live..It worked fine yesterday, but when I test connection, the 'Wireless Network' says Not Connected.

netgear answers:

On the computer that you are on now
If you have a Wireless ADSL Modem Router
on the laptop that is connected, go to

start -> Run (or on vista press Windows + R)
type cmd and press ok

on the DOS screen that appears, type

ipconfig /all

and lot of details will be listed, but the one you want is your default gatwary IP

when you have this, goto a web browser and goto the web address

http://[YOUR DEFAULT GATEWAY IP]

which might be like

http://192.168.1.1

you maybe asked for a password to control your wireless device, this can sometimes be found on the bottom of your wireless router. If not search google for your wireless routers name and the words username and password like

netgear username and password

this should bring up results that will give you an answer like

username: admin
password: admin

once logged in, look for wireless settings, there you should be able to change your network key or see what it is.
