How to open linksys firmware update on Imac?

Q. I just went to the linksys webpage and updated the firmware to 1.02.5 but the file never opened and said choose an application to open it. What would I used to open this file on an imac and set it up?

A. Don't open it just click cancel. Then go to 192.168.1.1 or what ever your router's ip is. Then log in, the default password is usually admin for name and a blank password or reverse it blank name and admin for the password. On the most common router, the WRT54G you click on administration on the top and then firmware upgrade. Then click choose file and click on the unopened .bin file. DO NOT uncompressed the .bin file it must be the original compressed .bin file or you could ruin the router!.

How to make Linksys wireless router private?
Q. I have a Linksys wireless router and want to keep it private. Can you tell me step-by-step what to do? Thank you!

A. One thing that one must do is password protect ones router in order to keep people from logging into your network and stealing sensitive data.

If you think offenders are logging into your network through a router, than password protect your router.
Log into your router. Set up the password there.

XP
1) Goto Start/Run
2) Type in "cmd"

Vista
1) Click the Start button
2) Type in "command"

Once you are in the command prompt:
1)Type in "ipconfig"
2) In your Internet browser type in "http://" followed by your default gateway (found in the command prompt)
***Example: http://192.168.1.1 (try clicking the link)
3) Login (search online for login info) Usually admin, password
3) There should be a link on the side somewhere. It should have several options like WEP, WPA etc.

Another method is implementing MAC addressing or dynamically assigned IP addresses.

I have Linksys to set up my home network and wifi, I lost CD software, how can I secured network?
Q. My home now has Wifi and I can access internet wirelessly and everything. The wifi is secured but it is with a default code that is very long and it would be easier to make a personal password instead of a long one that I can't remember. I lost CD software, are there any other options? I run both a Mac Leopard OS and a Microsoft Windows Vista OS.

A. What's the model number of your router?

try visiting the following urls in your browser, one should trigger a router login page:
http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.2.1
(Please note that these IP addresses are internal network addresses- they cannot connect to any website on the internet and are safe to visit- see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network )

Usually linksys routers use the following username/password combos:
(blank)/admin
admin/admin
admin/password

(Note: this is different than the password you'd use to connect wirelessly to your router)

If those fail search for "(model name) default password".

Once you're in, go to the security or wireless tab (It will vary by router) and you should be able to change the wireless password.

Hope this helps!

How to connect to wireless Internet via linksys wireless adapter.?
Q. Hi I just got a linksys wireless adapter for my desktop and it won't connect to my linksys wireless router. It gets a signal but it won't connect to it. The weird thing is my iPod touch 2nd generation will connect to the wireless Internet. Please Help.

A. hey,you delema may just be a simple error donn't panic.
ok so what grade is your router and adapter?this is the radio signal grade currently 802.11 the most common is 802.11g there are others but lets not worry about that, the problem could be that your wireless adapter is out of range or somthing else,it wont connnect but it can get a signal, probobly out of range if you have 2 bar signal most adapters wont connect, normally because it takes so long to recive an "answer" from the router, what you have to do is either move your computer closer to the door in your room or move your router to the next avalible phone jack thats cloaser to your PC,then it should work,im not sure about LINKSY but try this,go to start run/search cmd, then tyoe "ipconfig" without quotes, go to default gateway and there'll be an ip address then copy that ip address into your internet address bar and hit enter,it will probobly come up with a username and password normaly blank or admin for both, then go to WLAN settings and uncheck protected mode,QoS activation and WLAN security,WPA/WPA2/PSK, then try to connect on your wireless computer if that does not work then try,the complicated way,im not sure if you can do this on LINKSY but have a go,change beacin interval and DTIM interval to minimum change TX and RX chainmask to max increase TXopLimit and then it should work.no luck? contact LINKSY and see what they say or another thing you can do is change wirelss channels each channel is seperated by 0.000100GHz if you live in area where there are more that 2 wireless divices this may be the best thinng to try.
lots of luck
