How can I boost my Wireless Receiver's range?

Q. I am operating a Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G Receiver and I'm getting poor signal reception in my area.

Any ideas on how I can boost it's reception strength?

(I am running a computer with Windows XP with an AMD Sempron processor).

A. Try purchasing a wireless bridge/repeater and place it between you and the wireless access point. Check the Source link for more info.

How do I set up a wireless internet connection in Mandriva Linux 2006 with a Linksys wusb54g v4 reciever?
Q. I just recently installed Mandriva Linux and I dont know to much about Linux. I have a Wireless-G broadband router with a wusb54g v4 network adapter connected to the computer with Linux. I cant figure out which driver to use or how to put my own driver in. I downloaded NDisWrapper to install a Windows driver and I burned it to a CD to put in my Linux computer. But i cant even figure out how to view what is on the CD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A. Ahhh Ndiswrapper - It took me almost a month to figure out how to use that when I first delved into the world of Linux.
Okay, there's no point me regurgitating was is readily available on the net - there are hundreds of tutorials on setting up Ndiswrapper within Linux.
This guide is a good one: http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/Networking/NdisWrapper_The_Ultimate_Guide/

Your best bet is, if you can, plug your computer into a LAN port while you set up ndiswrapper so you can still access the net and use repositories because I really don't recommend trying to install ndiswrapper by hand when you've only just started using Linux. To install it in Mandrive while you're on the net, you want to type "urpmi wireless-tools" into the terminal and hit y at any questions. But obviously this will only work if you've got a LAN cable plugged in. Good luck, if you get really stuck, may I recommend installing Ubuntu linux instead. People may argue with me over this, but you'll find the Ubuntu guide/wiki is full of ace tutorials to get everything set up nice and easily.

Setting up a wireless home network help?
Q. I want to set up a small home network with 3 desktop PC's so that all 3 can access the internet and nobody punches anyone else for computer time. All I care about is access to the internet at good speeds for all 3 comps.

PC 1 is brand new and pretty darn sweet - Vista Home Premium
PC 2 is a 3 year old Dell Dimension 3000 - XP
PC 3 is some kind of 5 year old EMachines - XP

Everything I know about networking I've discovered in the last 2 days researching online but I don't know if I'm missing something.

I'm getting a Linksys WRT54GS router and two Linksys WUSB54G USB adaptors. Is it as easy as plugging in the two adaptors in PC 2 and 3 while attaching the router to PC 1 and going through the various install and prompts?
Is there something else that I'm going to need to buy to hook everything up or just the router and adaptors?
Will older computers work with this?
Is it ok with one of the comps running Vista with the other two running XP?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
You guys are great!

Thanks a ton.

A. You have got it down pretty good. Just follow the installation manuals.

Why does my desktop PC intermittantly lose the connection to my WIFI router?

Q. My desktop PC will sometimes lose the connection to my WIFI router. I can be surfing the web and suddenly any page I connect to will time out. I still show an excellent connection between my PC and router. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software for my USB WIFI adapter on my PC.

The router is a Linksys WRT54GC and it's been updated to the latest firmware. My PC connects to the router via a Linksys WUSB54G using the latest firmware.

I have another laptop that connects wirelessly to the same router but I experience zero issues. I think this eliminates the router being bad.

My PC is an old HP running WXP SP2 loaded with the latest security updates and patches. Ad-aware loaded with the latest build.

Help?
I forgot to mention, once the connection drops if I wait 5 - 10 min the connection will restore itself as if nothing happened.

A. Hard question. Normally I would look at the transmit frequency of the router, but since you said you have a NB that's working fine, I would look at the keep-alive, or RTS threshold settings in the Network Card Properties on the desktop. (You can increase these per MFG spec to keep the activity check high so the NIC doesn't drop and reset its connection to the WAP) Also check and make sure there's no power saving function on your NIC that's shutting the thing down. (This is under Power Management in Control Panel) Hope this helps.

When you change the roaming decision on a wireless card, do you have to change anything else?
Q. I just bought a wireless USB adapter (linksys WUSB54GS). I changed roaming decision to "optimize bandwidth" to stop myself from losing connection so often when playing games. It works okay, but in the past I've had problems afterwards. If I change the roaming decision, do I need to change any other advanced option or should I be okay to leave it as is? Thanks!

7th

A. That should be all you have to change.

Are there drivers compatible with Vista for the WUSBF54G Linksys wireless network adapter?
Q. I have one and I can't seem to find drivers for it. I can find them for the WUSB54G adapter but not the WUSBF54G adapter. A lot of people seem to have and some have the drivers and some don't. I'm wondering if anyone here knows where to get them. Namely for free as people have been finding them. I just don't want to pay for something that should have come with the package, as it was advertised to work with Vista. Thanks.

A. if you have 32bit vista the xp drivers will work. i have the same adapter unfortuently i just upgraded to 64bit so im screwed
