Is it worth modifying my Linksys WRT600N router?
Q. Ive read that there are different firmwares that can be installed onto the router that can allow it to function differently than with Linksys' firmware.....what are the benefits/disadvantages for modifying the firmware of my WRT600N or WRT350N?
A. In my opinion. NO.
Here are some of the things I think of:
1)You add the wrong firmware and the router becomes a piece of electronic rubbish. Linksys probably won't honor your warranty at that point.
2) Warranty, say goodbye to it.
3) You could get firmware that creates a problem with the broadcast signal in such a manner as to violate FCC regs. Doubt anyone would notice but it might happen.
The advantage could be smoother operation, or to add a function like bridging for example. Most commercial routers operate in router or bridge mode. The bridge mode makes your router act like an extender for other wireless routers.
So, if your warranty is gone already, and you want a wireless bridge device, it may be worth the risk.

How can i lock my internet network in my pc in my pc, so that my pc does not look for other networks?
Q. I have a linksys firmware 2. My internet keeps on disappearing every 3 or so minutes. The cause maybe that the labtop network my pc is picking up is trying to connect to that network than my own.
A. I presume you are talking about a wireless link to the router. It seems odd that your pc wants to go to another network. If so the other networks have security issues.
Anyway, you should be able to select your own network and it should not be jumping as you suggest.
I think the real issue is something else, like an intermittant problem with the router dependability. Some Linksys models are famous for failing after a while. See if there is new firmware for it as this may fix the problem.

Where could I find a programmer to collaborate with on open source wifi router software with?
Q. I would like to create a custom firmware package for off the shelf wifi routers, (linksys/cisco is my preference) open sourced, for an art project. Project is funded and programmer would receive all money beyond hardware purchase requirements to get the project off the ground. I will receive no money, but will retain IP of project.
A custom linksys firmware, for art.

A. Probably on Craigslist.org you could find someone to help you with this project.
