Q. i have a WRT54G linksys router and i disabled the password so i can be easier on the family, but now i found out that hackers/neighbors/ and others are using this network. How can i put up a password?
A. To change your wireless password:
Open a command prompt on a computer connected to your network, and type in ipconfig. Take the default gateway address and put it in your web browser. The login is usually admin admin, or admin *blank*. Then look through the control panel for an option to change the wireless password.
If you are given the option, use WPA2 with AES for your security settings.

A. 1) With your web browser log into 192.168.1.1 -- the username is admin and the password is either admin or just leave it blank (no password).

How do i get my linksys router password back?
Q. I have a linksys router, i have no idea what model i just know its a wireless g with speedbooster, and i have forgotten my login password. I have tried doing a hard reset of the router as well as unplugging it and plugging it back in. Is there any way to reset or change the password without logging into the router on 192.168.1.1?
A. You must not be doing the hard reset properly or you do not know the default factory default password for the admin...
Usually, holding the reset button on the back for 30 seconds or so will do a factory reset of a router.
Default admin usernames and passwords are usually
admin admin
admin blank
You do know what model of router you have... Pick it up and read it. Go to the Linksys web site and download the manual (if you do not have the paper copy handy) and find out how to do a proper reset and look up the default username and password.

How do i make my Linksys internet connection secure?
Q. I have successfully installed my Linksys router, but the line is unsecured. I'm in an apartment and now my connection is slow, probably because everyone is now bumming off my internet. How do I make the connection secure? Where do I need to go?
A. on your internet browser type in
192.168.1.1
This is pathway to get to your Linksys settings
unless you have previously gave this a name, do NOT put a user name in, but the password is ADMIN
click on "Wireless"
change security settings in there, sorry, but im not at my router (at work right now) to give you more details.
Basically though, you will have to configure your router then your ethernet (NIC) adaptor so they see eachother to secure you line.
Pull your manual out or go to http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859841396&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=4139637314B03 and choose the router you have to download the manual (so you can review it when you are offline)
The settings are pretty simple change, just make sure to right down the security codes that the router gives you so you can put those into your wirless adaptor.
