A. Don't open it just click cancel. Then go to 192.168.1.1 or what ever your router's ip is. Then log in, the default password is usually admin for name and a blank password or reverse it blank name and admin for the password. On the most common router, the WRT54G you click on administration on the top and then firmware upgrade. Then click choose file and click on the unopened .bin file. DO NOT uncompressed the .bin file it must be the original compressed .bin file or you could ruin the router!.

A. You need to log into your router from your computer and look for something related to firmware upgrade. Most of the time, you just tell the router where you saved the new firmware file on your computer and click a button and it's done.

A. if the problem is you dont have the password, you will have to reset the device. Check there website, its fairly simple to do and will reset all the settings back to the defaults including the password
