Q. Ok I'm at the download screen I see like 4 downloads which one or do I need all of them to upload to the access point... and do I need the TFTP client they offer? I'm not sure because this is the first time I am doing this and I'm not sure if a certain version is compatible or not with the access point. I'm guessing all of them are sicne they are the downloads that popped up when I searched the make/model/version of the router.
any tech people like me that can help out would be much appreciated l,,l(^_^)l,,l

A. dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin
Keep in mind, this firmware upgrade MUST be done with a pc wired directly to the router. Dont attempt this on a wireless connection or you WILL brick your router.
You may want to read this link first

Why can't I access the web based setup on my WAP54G linksys wireless access point?
Q. I have tried holding down reset button for 30 seconds and then trying to access the web based set up via IP 192.168.1.245 with no luck... Yes I have connected my computer directly to the access point via ethernet cable... Once again I have tried the ip in the manual 192.168.1.245 and that does not work and resetting does not work either...
The manual clearly states the above ip as the access point address.
Is there a way to update the firmware without access to the setup?

A. Are you sure it is 192.168.1.245? Usually it is 192.168.1.1 or I could even see it being 192.168.1.254. Also some routers disallow admin access from a wireless connection, so try a wired connection instead. Hope that helps!
Connection 2 routers wirelessly?
Q. My question is i have linksys wrt54g wireless router and linksys wrtp54g wireless router is there an anyway to connect these together? 1st router is connected to internet and wired to my pc and second router will be downstairs hardwired to my second pc but i want second pc to connect internet wirelessly thru my first router which is upstairs. Is this possible can second router be step up in a way so it access to internet thru first router and my second pc can get access to internet thru that second router. I know its kinda confusing but i searched for access point answer but couldnt really figure out if anyone out there has this knowledge and can guide me thru this problem i would appreciate it. Ty
A. Unless you can set the second router in "AP Client" or "WDS" mode, they will not talk to each other wirelessly.
There are some third party routers that can do those modes, but most box-store routers cannot.
Linksys does make a AP Client box, called a WAP54G.
I use:
https://www.demarctech.com/products/reliawave-rwr/rwr-hpg-i.htm
There are others on Ebay most of the time that look similar, just make sure they support AP Client, WDS, or bridging modes. Those are key words that mean the router is quite flexible.
I've seen people convert the wrt54g with third-party firmware (DD-WRT) that can make it work like a AP Client. Not sure about the other model.

Wireless Access Point Help?
Q. I have ATT Uverse and I went out and bought a WAP54g and I want to have the WAP54g capture the signal that the ATT Uverse is giving off and then let me run it through a ethernet cable into my computer...
I need this because I am running Windows 7 64bit and my NETGEAR wireless card does not support driver in 64bit because Netgear announced they are not releasing drivers in 64bit...
I also wanted to know if "bridging" them would require me to go out and buy another WAP54g so one could give off a signal from the Uverse and then the other one upstairs would be able to capture the same AP's signal...
And I want this done so I dont have to run a ethernet cable going from my basement to my upstairs...
thank you lol but my dad ended up running 75ft of cable going from the basement to my room ended up being easier then he thought...but yeah i discovered the WET54g last night and was thinking about getting that

A. I have to tell you that this is a good AP but a bad "Client" Unit. You do need to use bridge mode, but the WAP54G can only connect to another WAP54G in that mode.
From THE manual for the unit.
"Wireless Bridge This mode connects two physically
separated wired networks using two access points (use
additional access points to connect more wired networks).
This feature only works with another Wireless-G Access
Point (model number: WAP54G)."
Linksys just didn't build the unit to be used as a bridge receiver. They do make units that do what you want to do, this isn't it!
Check out the WET54G which was designed as a bridge device and will connect to about any access point, including your 2wire. http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WET54G
If you can, take the WAP back and get the WET54 you and your systems will be much happier. (linksys just skipped the firmware to make it work as a bridge unit.)
I actually use the Ubiquity Loco's for bridges as they are cheap and very good.
http://www.ubnt.com/products/loco.php for $49.00 they just work and work well.
